orphan drugs, rare disease, R&DAs Russia looks to reduce its dependence on imported drugs and implement its own “Pharma 2020” modernisation initiative, Genzyme, has embarked on a research collaboration with the Russian non-state research complex ChemRar Hi-Tech Centre in order to develop and innovate new medicines for orphan diseases.

This research collaboration, in which there is mutual interest to undergo R&D of innovative genetically-engineered vaccines, is a forward step to localising research to Russia and in the longer term provide treatments to Russians suffering from orphan diseases.

The World Orphan Drug Congress taking place in Geneva on the 29th November – 1st December will be a global platform to interact, engage and establish new collaborations to drive the future orphan drug innovations of tomorrow.
