Pulmonary hypertension, or PH, is high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs that can lead to heart failure. The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) provided this whitepaper on ‘Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Recommendations for Improving Patient Outcomes.’
In the whitepaper, the PHA states that ‘Despite ongoing additions to the treatment armamentarium, there remain substantial delays in the diagnosis and optimal care of patients with PAH as well as significantly delayed referrals to PH specialty centers. This remains the biggest barrier to maximizing patient outcomes.’ Early diagnosis and treatment is key, and ‘each stakeholder group — patient, physician, caregiver, allied health professional — can make important contributions toward maximizing patient outcomes.’
