Leonard Bell, named by Forbes as one of their ‘Best Bosses’ in 2012, founded Alexion in 1992 and has since grown the company into one the most profitable and influential businesses working in rare diseases today. Dr. Bell has overseen the early development of Soliris, through to their receipt of a 6th orphan drug designation for what is famously known as the most expensive drug in the world. Alexion even managed to depose rare disease giant Genzyme from their place in the Nasdaq-100, an index of the 100 largest non-financial stocks on the Nasdaq.
